Through 1970 and 1971 I was enjoying the pastime of writing songs and friends began to risk their reputations by inviting me to sing them at various Christian events around the Grand Rapids, MI area.
In 1972 I began traveling the US and Canada with my style of contemporary Christian music. The 70′s were one of the most fun and rewarding periods of my life. I met a lot of great folks and saw a lot of beautiful scenery. It was fulfilling to write and perform music while sharing God’s great news with people. Hi Ed, This is Don Elwell, from your Dordt College visits. I still listen to the tapes of your concerts there, they are among the most precious I have. My college roommate also has copies. You played at the Student Union Building on a Sunday evening, Jan 27, 1974. What a warm concert. I loved all your songs, but your piano numbers are especially precious, eg. “Before”, “Down the Road”, others. Then you were back again for the Freshman-Sophomore Banquet in 1976. Steve Lyon and I ran the sound for you. Another great concert. That would have been in the Spring. For some reason I don’t have the exact date on the tape. Glad to see you’re still singing. Thanks for blessing my heart with your songs, then and now.
